Heat advisory today; extreme heat warning Tuesday

Today's heat advisory will escalate to an extreme heat warning on Tuesday, according to the latest update from the National Weather Service.

Monday's heat advisory calls for a heat index of 100 to 106. On Tuesday, a dangerous heat index of 110 to 116 will be possible.

Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.
Our current routine of a slight chance of afternoon thunderstorms will also remain in place. Storms are more likely to reach strong to severe levels on Tuesday.

Some relief is in sight, with a high of 86 on Wednesday, and as low as 82 on Thursday, nearly ten degrees cooler than normal for late July.

But by the weekend, daily highs will rise again to near our seasonal average of 90.
