The Lyon County sinkhole has been patched, and I-24 should return to normal traffic in time for Memorial Day weekend travel.
Officials with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and the Lyon County Highway maintenance crew said Wednesday that progress was made in the repairs of the sinkhole that was discovered on Saturday.
The one-foot wide circular hole at the surface turned out to be a several feet deep, caused by a natural underground spring.
Crews dug out the hole and filled it with concrete, then topped it with asphalt.
Finishing work on Thursday will allow for the work zone to come down before the start of the weekend travel rush.
