KYTC announced the start of roundabout construction near Reidland later this month.

US 68 will be closed at the Interstate 24 Exit 16 Interchange in McCracken County, starting as early as June 22, during construction of roundabout at the exit ramps.

No through traffic will be able to cross US 68 at I-24 during construction. The I-24 ramps in both directions will be blocked for most of the project.

Work could last about 4 months, or until mid-October, weather permitting.

Closing the interchange allows crews to complete the project more efficiently and in a shorter timeframe than would be possible with lane restrictions and multiple temporary closures.

It's not the first time KYTC has closed an interstate interchange to construct a safer roadway design. In 2019, US 60 at I-24 Exit 4 in Paducah was closed for approximately two months while contractors completed the Double Crossover Diamond interchange. Since opening, injury-related crashes at that location have decreased by 32 percent.

KYTC has plans for several more roundabouts to be constructed in western Kentucky over the next 5 to 7 years. Along with two at Reidland, the attached map indicates four roundabouts planned for Paducah; one at Calvert City; four at Draffenville; six at Mayfield; two at Murray; and one at Cairo/Wickliffe.
