The latest addition to Paducah's Quilt City USA floodwall murals art project was unveiled this week.

Entitled "Mary’s Mural – Diamond Field," the newest display was funded by the community and friends to honor Mary Hammond, the former executive director of the Paducah Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Hammond served for 37 years at the Paducah Convention & Visitors Bureau – 23 as executive director. During her tenure, she promoted Paducah’s growing role as a cultural and tourism center, including the beginnings of the National Quilt Museum, and the city's UNESCO Creative City designation.

The vintage quilt depicted on the wall was from her personal collection. It features the hand-pieced/hand-quilted Diamond Field pattern popular in the 1930s-1940s.

Hammond passed away in 2024.
