Mayfield mayor O'Nan to receive national award

Mayfield mayor Kathy O' Nan is set to receive an honor this week from the Kentucky League of Cities.

O'Nan will receive the Tommy Longo Disaster Leadership Award during the KLC's Women in City Government Summit.

The national award honors a local official who leads their community through a major disaster.

In fact, O'Nan  had to deal with two natural disasters: the December 2021 tornado and historic flooding that impacted Mayfield last July.

The award is named after the late mayor of Waveland, Mississippi, John Tommy Longo, who led the city’s recovery effort after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

O’Nan is the second person to receive the award.

 The presentation will take place Thursday in Lexington.
