After 65 years serving great food to people in Paducah, Bob Holman is retiring, so his latest restaurant, The Holman House, is closing.

Holman announced on Facebook Saturday that the restaurant on Irvin Cobb Drive will close Saturday, June 28.

The current cafeteria-style restaurant replaced a buffet-style establishment on Park Avenue, which was preceded by one in the Ritz Hotel downtown. Prior to that, Holman owned or operated Paducah's Dairy Queen, Bob's Drive-in, Roberto's Pizza, and The Red Heifer.

Bob's famous dishes include his Italian Beef Sandwich, the Muffaletta, and French Silk Pie. Holman turned 88 last November. His wife Linda, daughter Regina Vaughn, and his late daughter Bobbi Williams helped him run The Holman House for years.

Regina Vaughn says the restaurant has always been a dream of her dad. Vaughn says he hasn't been well the last two or three years. "I've been trying to carry on, but it keeps me from being with him... that's more important to me right now," explained Vaughn.

Many of the employees expressed their sadness over Vaughn's decision to close. "They understand how I feel, they're behind me and that makes it a whole lot easier" says Vaughn.

Vaughn said it was a really tough decision to close, but they might consider selling the business if the right person came along. If someone has a serious inquiry they can contact her at The Holman House.
