Downtown Paducah Ice Skating Rink Opens Friday

It has been six years since Paducah had a downtown ice skating rink during the upcoming holiday season, but that's about to change.

Inside the Schroeder Expo Center, workers from Miami-based Magic Ice USA are busy constructing a temporary 60-foot by 120-foot rink on the floor of the Expo Center.

Expo Center Director Chuck Tate told West Kentucky Star that the Baptist Health ICE in the EXPO opens on Friday, and they are excited to bring back the once annual treat for residents.

The rink will hold 350 skaters at a time.  Tate said even though the rink will be indoors, you'll still want to dress warm.  The Expo Center will be around 55 degrees so the machines will have an easier time keeping the rink frozen.

Visitors can go inside the Expo Center free of charge, but it will cost $7.00 to skate, and they also have skates available for rent for $3.00. In addition to the skating rink, concessions, a bouncy house, and arcade video games will be inside for everyone in the family to have some fun.

The rink will remain open until January 21, and it is available for private rental packages like birthday parties, school outings, and holiday parties.

Hours of operation are Tuesday through Friday 3 pm to 9 pm, Saturday 10 am to 10 pm, and Sunday 1 pm to 10 pm.

On weekdays that school is out for the holidays, the rink will be open 10am to 10pm.

It will also be open on the holiday themselves, including:

Thanksgiving: 3 pm - 9 pm
Christmas Eve: 10 - 3 pm
Christmas Day: 3 pm - 9 pm
New Years Eve: 10 am - 10 pm
New Years Day: 3 pm - 9 pm
