A major winter storm rolled across Missouri Tuesday night, with a 6-8 inch swath of heavy wet snow west of Poplar Bluff and Cape Girardeau. The snow continued into southern Illinois dropping 4-6 inches from Carbondale toward Mount Vernon. Sporadic power outages were reported in southern Illinois and southeast Missouri.

Another inch or two of accumulation will continue across parts of southeast Missouri and southern Illinois through midday. Gusty southwest winds will pick up during the late morning.

Rain with gusts up to 40 mph will be possible today across western Kentucky.

Results from the storm varied almost from county to county across the region.

Last night was a rain event for most of western Kentucky. The westernmost counties did see some big flakes for a time, ranging from enough to cover grass and rooftops, to about an inch in Ballard County.

In Missouri, half of Carter County was reported to be without power after 5.5 inches of heavy wet snow. Perry County, Missouri measured 4 inches.

Cape Girardeau had 3.5 inches of snow after midnight.

Massac County, Illinois got a quick 2 inches before midnight, then back to rain with slushy road surfaces because of warmer pavement and air temperatures above freezing.
