There's a new development in the sex crimes case involving former Murray Police detective Justin Swope.

The Murray Sentinel reported Wednesday the Murray Police Department began an internal investigation of Swope and the then 15-year-old girl who has brought charges against him.

In that investigation, Swope had told the girl via Snapchat that he dreamed about kissing her, commented on her body and saved photos she sent, according to the department's investigative file.

The report concluded he had broken no law. It issued him a written reprimand for conduct that could damage the department's reputation, kept him on the force and later promoted him.

The investigation first began when another officer said a family friend, the victim, had asked if it was alright to fo her to communicate with Swope on Snapchat-a social media platform.  The girl then showed the officer messages that made her feel "uncomfortable".

Swope faces 30 sex crime charges in Calloway County and eight in Trigg County and will make court appearances in both cases next month.
