Murray man arrested after vehicle pursuit, crash and fire

A Murray man faces multiple charges after a traffic incident early Sunday morning.

The Calloway County Sheriff’s Office said deputies tried to pull a vehicle over at around 2 a.m. on Pottertown Road.

Deputies said the vehicle fled at speeds of more than 85 mph before losing control and crashing into several trees on Poplar Springs Road.

The vehicle caught fire as deputies assisted the driver, 21-year-old Jonathan Gwaltney. Calloway County Fire and Rescue was called in to extinguish the fire.

Gwaltney was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment.

Along with traffic offenses, Gwaltney was charged with fleeing or evading police and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
