The winter precipitation has stopped falling, but the dangerous cold temperatures remain.

The region's winter storm warning and ice storm warning expire this evening, only to be replaced by an extreme cold warning beginning tonight through Tuesday morning.

The latest warning is for dangerously cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero for all of western Kentucky, southern Illinois, southeast Indiana and southeast Missouri.

The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed.

Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside.

Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors.
