Saturday marked the third anniversary of the collision of two Black Hawk helicopters during night training over Trigg County, claiming the lives of nine Fort Campbell soldiers.

The day was commemorated with the dedication of the new Nine Eagles Memorial at the Trigg County Veterans Memorial Park.

Family members, veterans, local leaders, and residents returned for the tribute at the memorial just off US 68 on Old Canton Pike, just up the road from the crash site.

The Nine Eagles memorial is intended to be the centerpiece of a developing veterans park, a larger effort to create a space that honors all who have served.

The park is expected to continue expanding in future phases, with educational features and additional tributes to military service.
