After many days over its banks, the Ohio River at Paducah has fallen back below flood stage.
As of Tuesday night, the gauge at the Paducah riverfront was at 38.98 feet, back below flood stage of 39 feet.
The river crested at 48.15 feet last Tuesday, April 15. This past Monday morning the river fell to 42.7 feet, below moderate flood stage.
This is allowing the standing water in several counties to drain toward the river. All affected roads in McCracken County were open by Monday afternoon. Less than a dozen state roads across western Kentucky are still closed by high water.
At Cairo, the Ohio River fell to 46.94 feet, and out of moderate flood stage of 47 feet. It crested at 52.68 feet on April 12. It's forecast to fall below flood stage at Cairo on Saturday night.
