Kentucky State Police released their preliminary findings on Wednesday in the officer-involved shooting in Murray on June 16.

KSP reported that 23-year-old suspect Eric W. Saxton was shot in the leg when he ran armed with a weapon toward five Murray Police officers at an apartment on Brooklyn Drive. No officers were injured.

The officers had been called to the home for a report of an out-of-control person who was armed with a knife.

Saxton was taken to an out-of-state hospital for treatment and arrested after he was released. He was charged with attempted murder of a first responder.

Murray Police said officer Charles McGuire was placed on administrative leave per the department’s procedures.

KSP said McGuire has been with the Murray Police Department for one year and 22 years in law enforcement.

Investigators said preliminary interviews have been completed and the investigation continues.
