As the heat wears on, we're all taking part in a record in which we'd rather not participate.

The National Weather Service office in Paducah says that as of Friday, Paducah had officially witnessed our longest streak of 105+ heat index readings since 1999.

Friday was our 8th straight day reaching this threshold. The peak heat index reading during the streak occurred on Wednesday when it felt like 110.

Paducah has only experienced 8 or more days of such heat on five different occasions. Friday's 8th day tied previous equal stretches that happened in this same week of July in 1999, and mid-August in 1995.

We have a very likely shot to tie the all-time longest streak today. Two previous 9-day streaks occurred beginning on July 4th in 1980, and the last full week of August in 1989.

And that's not all. The way next week's forecast is rolling out, we could actually keep this current streak alive through Thursday, which would be 14 straight days.

However, next Friday's forecast -- so far -- calls for a high of only 87, which could finally mean a heat index under 100, depending on humidity.
