A speed enforcement campaign in Metropolis during the month of July has proved successful.
Metropolis Police said they were a part of a statewide campaign aimed at reducing fatalities and reminding drivers to “slow down to save lives.” The numbers released by Metropolis Police showed that through the initiative, they issued 65 speeding tickets and three seat belt violations. Eleven fugitives were also caught as a result. Four DUI arrests and three drug arrests were made during the campaign. They also got four drivers with suspended licenses and three who were uninsured off the road.
The program was funded by the federal government through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
