Fire heavily damaged a structure in the Stella community of Calloway County on Saturday night.
Calloway County Fire and Rescue was dispatched to the Hwy 121 between Kirksey Road and Butterworth Road. Callers to 911 advised that the shop was already fully involved at the time firemen were toned out.
The first units arriving on scene found the shop was also lived in by the owner, who was outside walking around.
While battling the fire, it was discovered that the shop owner had sustained first-degree burns. He was transported to Murray-Calloway County Hospital, then flown to a specialized burn unit. No update on his condition has been released.
Calloway Fire and Rescue posted that the structure was declared uninhabitable, and the American Red Cross has been requested to assist the homeowner once he is released from the hospital.
A total of 29 firefighters worked for about three hours to extinguish the fire and protect adjacent structures.
