Between the hours of 7 am and 4 pm today, the City of Paducah will be training staff from Jim Smith Contracting on floodgate installation procedures at the Harrison Street floodgate in downtown Paducah.
During the training, North 3rd Street will be closed between the North 3rd Street loop and Executive Boulevard.
Also, Harrison Street will be closed from the floodwall to the loop.
Training Jim Smith Contracting crews on floodgate installation procedures will benefit the city in the event of an emergency response to flooding.
The contractor has assisted during previous high-water events on the Ohio River. The last time Paducah installed the floodgates was during flooding in 2019.
The city installs the floodgates when the river forecast is 49 feet and rising.
