A welfare check of a Murray woman on Sunday turned into an assault arrest.

A Calloway County Sheriff’s deputy was sent to a home on Cambridge Drive at about 11 a.m. Sunday. The deputy located 37-year-old Rebekah Poteet at the residence. According to the report, Poteet was believed to be intoxicated, so emergency services were called to transport her to the hospital. Poteet is said to have agreed to be taken to the hospital, but as she was being helped to the ambulance, deputies said she got angry, threw things, and even resisted to the point of allegedly biting an officer on the shoulder.

After a stop at the hospital, Poteet was booked into the Calloway County Detention Center and charged with assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.

The Calloway County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Murray Police and Kentucky State Police.
