Nearly 50 massive concrete beams will be delivered and set in November for another bridge that is part of the I-69 Ohio River Crossing project (ORX) between Henderson and Evansville.
The 48 concrete beams, part of what is known as Section 3 in Indiana, range in length from 134 feet to 163 feet long. Four beams are expected to be delivered each day from Decatur, Indiana, with one beam transported per truck. Beam delivery and setting is scheduled to begin Monday and continue Mondays through Thursdays through Nov. 21.
Three approach bridges are being built in Evansville. Eighty-four 100-ton beams for the first approach bridge, which is nearly 4,000 feet long, were set this summer.
Three overnight pours are expected for the concrete deck, with the first expected in early November. Each of the pours will last about 12 hours and require around 170 truckloads of concrete.
Beams for the third and final approach bridge are expected to be delivered and set next year.
Construction on Section 3 is expected to be 60 percent completed by the end of this year and completed by late 2026.
After three years of major infrastructure improvements, work on Section 1 of the Ohio River Crossing in Henderson is coming to a close. Gov. Andy Beshear and state and local leaders will cut the ribbon on the monumental project on Monday at 10 a.m., followed by a community celebration that afternoon.
By Monday, Nov. 10, the three major elements of the Henderson project are expected to open to traffic.
Section 2 includes the four-lane river crossing between Henderson and Evansville. Construction is slated to begin in 2027. The approach bridges mark the path to the future I-69 bridge.
The entire project has a 2031 completion date.
