Costco coming to Clarksville in 2028

Wholesale retail giant Costco is coming to a new retail and residential development planned for Clarksville.

The Clarksville-Montgomery County Economic Development Council announced this week that the big-box warehouse outlet chain will be the anchor tenant of a proposed 220-acre development between Governor’s Square Mall and Interstate 24.

The first phase of the Freedom Farms project includes 74 acres. Costco will occupy 25 of the available acres. The development is expected to include both retail and residential units, with more than 600 apartments and condominiums.

The development is still pending the county commission’s final approval. Construction of Freedom Farms is expected to be completed by next spring, with Costco opening in the spring of 2028.

The impact of Costco on Clarksville and Montgomery County will reportedly create more than 600 jobs. The $55 million capital investment is expected to generate $250 million in estimated annual sales and over $6 million in annual sales tax revenue.

Costco first opened in 1983 in Seattle. It's listed as the third-largest retailer in the world, and the world's largest retailer of beef, poultry, organic produce, and wine. It's claimed that just under a third of American consumers shop at Costco warehouses.
