The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has authorized free fishing days across the state on June 13-16.
During those four days, the public can fish without a fishing license, salmon stamp or island trout stamp. On days other than free fishing days, anyone over the age of 16 is required to have a license to fish.
The goal of the event is to generate interest in fishing in non-anglers and children.
The agency is offering equipment and educational materials to organizations that need them. The groups can complete an online form and IDNR will furnish the materials while supplies last.
Fishing licenses are available for $15 at vendors or online.
