Kentucky agriculture officials have implemented emergency livestock movement restrictions following the recent detection of New World Screwworm in Texas.
Although no cases have been reported in Kentucky, the state veterinarian has ordered new entry requirements for certain livestock arriving from Texas.
Livestock entering from Texas require an official permit number issued by the Kentucky Office of the State Veterinarian; A CVI Issued within 72 hours prior to entry into Kentucky; a signed statement from an accredited veterinarian attesting: “I have inspected the animals included in this shipment and have found them free of
clinical signs of NWS myasis”; or state of origin pre-movement inspection forms filled and signed if available.
Kentucky also wants notation of any treatments given to the animals on this shipment for NWS
The restrictions took effect June 5 and are scheduled to remain in place through at least Aug. 1.
