A Madison County, Kentucky woman is behind bars after allegedly causing $12,000 worth of damage to her ex-boyfriend’s car.

The Richmond Police Department said that after the couple got into an argument in early July, 31-year-old Stephanie Carlquist allegedly poured salt into the engine, glitter in the AC vent, slashed a tire, cracked the windshield, cracked the rear-view mirror and shattered the car’s radio screen.

Carlquist’s ex-boyfriend told police that she slashed the one tire on July 6, but then did the rest of the damage after another argument on July 15.

After the car was damaged, a tow truck took the car to a repair shop where the estimated cost of damages added up to nearly $12,500.

Police said Carlquist told the driver of the tow truck about damaging the car. The driver then called her ex-boyfriend’s mom, who co-owns the car with him, to tell her about Carlquist’s admission.

Carlquist also messaged her ex-boyfriend on Instagram. She told him she was stressed out because of her pregnancy and that she was sorry about the damage. There were also emails from her that indicated she offered to pay for the repairs, give him another car, or give him her own vehicle.

Police say when they interviewed Carlquist, she admitted to the glitter in the air vents and the damage to the windshield, but said he was “overdue” for the oil, motor and all other damage.

Carlquist was held in the Madison County Detention Center on a $12,000 bond, charged with felony criminal mischief.
