During his Friday update, Governor Andy Beshear announced 679 new COVID-19 cases across the state, bringing the total number of cases up to 38,298. He noted that 22 of the new cases were from children aged 5 and younger.

"We had more than 100,000 kids test positive nationwide just in the last couple weeks of July. We are seeing an explosion of positive tests among our young people," said Gov. Beshear. "We cannot experiment with the health of our children."

Additionally, Beshear reported eight new deaths, bringing the total number of deaths to 804. The deaths include a 63-year-old woman from Christian County. At least 9,021 Kentuckians have recovered, although that number is most likely low since not all health departments report recoveries.

Kentucky's positivity rate currently stands at 5.68 percent.
