A new website has been launched to help Kentuckians recognize, report, and recover from scams.

The site StopScams.ky.gov addresses the ever-increasing number of phone calls, texts and emails that aim to defraud not only the elderly, but people of any age.

According to the FBI, residents of Kentucky lost more than $74 million to scams in 2024.

The site offers tips on spotting common and emerging scams. Recent scam examples include fake toll or traffic ticket payment requests from scammers impersonating state agencies. For Kentuckians, a rash of scams surfaced this spring related to getting disaster relief from storm damage.

Officials say the rise of AI-powered scams, spoofed text messages, and phishing emails makes the fakes even harder to detect.

You can learn how to report fraud, and sign up to receive scam alerts via text or email.

StopScams.ky.gov was developed by the Public Protection Cabinet in collaboration with partners like the Better Business Bureau, AARP Kentucky, and law enforcement agencies.
