A southern Illinois man was charged after a deadly shooting outside Dolly Parton’s Stampede in Pigeon Forge on Saturday night.

Evan Cogdill, a 24-year-old from Marissa, Illinois, was charged with criminally negligent homicide in the death of 22-year-old Jacob Inselmann of Steeleville, Illinois.

Officers from the Pigeon Forge Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting a gunshot in the parking lot of The Stampede.

Officers found the two men inside a vehicle. One of the men told officers he had a handgun when it discharged, striking the other man.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Police have indicated the shooting appears to have been accidental, but the investigation remains ongoing.
