A tornado swept through Sikeston and Scott County in southeast Missouri on Friday evening, leaving two people dead and four others injured.
The storm caused significant damage, particularly north of Sikeston. Local officials confirmed that 40 to 50 homes sustained major damage in a subdivision.
One of the deaths was reported in the subdivision. The other death was reported along County Road 524 in the east side of the county.
Two of the injured were reported to be in critical condition.
The Red Cross is assisting in the affected area to provide support to those impacted. Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe posted that state agencies are working with local partners to respond in the recovery efforts.
In southern Illinois, the Williamson County Sheriff imposed an emergency curfew for storm-damaged areas in an effort to reduce injuries and possible looting.
The storm-damaged area included a mile-wide path Wolf Creek Road on the west side of the county and Saraville Road at Stonefort Road on the east side of the county.
The curfew was in effect from midnight until 6:00 a.m. No one was allowed to travel on public streets in that area besides residents, law enforcement, emergency officials and members of the media.
