The McCracken County Mustangs saw their state championship bid end Friday morning at the Kentucky state baseball semifinals in Lexington.

The Mustangs fell to the Boyd County Lions 6-2 at UK's Kentucky Proud Park.

Boyd County scored all of their runs in a big second inning to take early control of the game.

McCracken had their opportunity in the opening inning by loading the bases with no one out, but then couldn't push across a run. Ultimately, the Mustangs stranded 11 men on base for the game.

Caden Kern and Lucas Gagnon were named to the all-tournament team.

The Mustangs end their season with a record of 33-9. They arrived at the semifinal game by way of state tournament wins last week over Bowling Green 6-0, and Sayre 6-1.

Boyd County (29-7) will play for the state championship on Saturday against today's winner between Apollo (23-12) and Trinity (39-3).
