Murray State Athletics announced plans Thursday to retire the jersey of Racer basketball great Isaac Spencer, when the Racers host Bellarmine December 6th at the CFSB Center
Spencer and his teammates are returning to receive championship rings from the 1999-2000 season. He wore number 31 while playing fo the Racers.
Playing for Coach Mark Gottfried and Coach Tevester Anderson from 1997-01, Spencer was one of the kingpins that produced a overall record of 96-31 (.732), a mark of 57-13 (.814) in Ohio Valley Conference games and a home record of 49-5 (.907) as he helped close out Racer Arena and open the CFSB Center.
With Spencer, the Racers won three OVC regular season titles and made two trips to the NCAA Tournament.
Spencer's career still holds up as he is second at MSU in scoring (2,248 points), second in made field goals (823), fourth in made free throws (525), fifth in rebounds (962), 13th in assists (352). After his final game in 2001, Spencer was the only Racer to end his career in the top-10 in scoring, rebounding and assists.
He was inducted into the Murray State Hall of Fame in 2014.
