For the first time in nearly a century, the same school captured both girls and boys Sweet 16 state basketball championships.

George Rogers Clark beat St. Xavier 58-50 in overtime Saturday night to win the boys title. The win made GRC the first school since 1928 to win both titles. Ashland won both titles back then.

The GRC girls defeated Assumption last week to win their first title ever.

The boys blazed their state championship trail with Rupp Arena wins over Johnson Central, Marshall County and North Oldham to get into the finals.

George Rogers Clark finishes with a 33-4 record, and captures its first boys’ Sweet 16 title since 2022.
