The Murray State Racers dropped a 101-90 defeat to the Drake Bulldogs Wednesday night and also saw their 12-game winning streak snapped at the Knapp Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
The Racers (16-4) lost for the first time this season in the Missouri Valley Conference, but remain in solo possession of first place at 8-1. The Iowa Swing continues for MSU Saturday with a 3 p.m. tip off at Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.
Javon Jackson scored 20 points, while Roman Domon added a double-double on 19 points and 10 rebounds. Brock Vice and JJ Traynor each scored 12 points for the Racers.
Trailing 44-41 coming out of halftime, the Racers tied it at the 18:44 mark on a pair of Fred King free throws, but were never able to get the lead against the homestanding Bulldogs.
The Racers fell behind by 14 points with 9:25 left and dropped their first MVC game this season.
Game Notes
- The Racers split the season series with Drake after taking game one in Murray 81-72 (Dec. 18).
- Jackson extended his streak of making a 3-pointer to 123 games, a season-best for the Racers, while Layne Taylor pushed his streak to seven games.
- Jackson has 24 career games of 20-point scoring and 10 this season for the Racers and has scored at least 20 in the last five games.
- Domon had his third career double-double for the Racers with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
- Today was only the third game this season that the Racers have lost when they score 80 points, as MSU is now 15-3 with their only losses coming to SMU, Middle Tennessee and Drake.
- The Racers' 12-game winning streak marked the 23rd time in 101 seasons of the program in which the team has had at least one 10-game winning streak.
- MSU's run is the tied for the 11th longest win streak in program history.
