Halli Poock scored 27 points and Haven Ford added 18 as top-seeded Murray State set a new MVC tournament scoring record with their 105-88 victory over Indiana State in the Missouri Valley Conference womens tournament quarterfinals Friday in Coralville, Iowa.
The Racers (29-3) established an early lead, outscoring the Sycamores 31-13 in the second quarter to take a 55-30 lead into halftime. Murray State's prolific offense shot 48.4 percent from the field and forced Indiana State to commit 15 turnovers and converted them into 17 points.
Ford was nearly perfect from the charity stripe, finishing 13-of-14, while Sharnecce Currie-Jelks anchored the interior with 14 points and nine rebounds. Keslyn Secrist also chipped in 14 points for the Racers, who never trailed in the contest.
Indiana State (10-22) was led by a historic effort from Tierney Kelsey, who poured in 46 points on 15-of-29 shooting. Kelsey's performance set a new MVC tournament single-game scoring record. Despite her record-setting night and Amerie Flowers' 14 points, the Sycamores could not overcome the Racers' balanced attack and 33 made free throws.
Murray State advances to the semifinals to take on Northern Iowa on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
