Marshall County knocked off Boyd County 67-63 in their first round game of the Sweet Sixteen boys state tournament in Rupp Arena on Thursday.

The Marshals' Matthew Langhi scored 36 points and picked up 10 rebounds to outshine Boyd County's Jacob Spurlock, who finished with 29 points.

Both players are ranked in the state’s top 10 scorers — Spurlock at No. 6 with 27.3 points per game and Langhi at No. 7 at 27 ppg.

The Lions led most of the way, but Marshall County took the lead 52-51 and never gave it back.

Marshall County (25-8) now faces George Rogers Clark (30-4) on Friday night at 7:30 pm.


Lyon County fell short in their Sweet Sixteen opener, 74-61 to North Oldham.

North Oldham eighth-grader Pierre Rondo, son of former UK and NBA player Rajon Rondo, led the Mustangs with 25 points.

Nolan Coffman paced Lyon County with 21 points.

The Lyons finished their season with a record of 29-7.
