Following a court ruling on Friday, former Missouri basketball star Mark Mitchell entered the transfer portal and made it known that he has not been contacted by other schools regarding his plans.
According to multiple reports, Mitchell has committed to play at Kentucky this season. Mitchell’s decision was first reported by Joe Tipton of On3.
Mitchell averaged 18.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists at Missouri last season and was a Second-Team All-SEC performer.
He tied a career-high, scoring 32 points in a 78-72 loss to Kentucky in the Southeastern Conference Tournament. He scored 21 in the Tigers' 73-68 upset of the Wildcats on Jan. 7 at Rupp Arena. In two games against Kentucky last year, Mitchell averaged 26.5 points per game.
Mitchell described himself as a leader on and off the court.
"(I'm) someone the guys can look to on and off the court as a leader with my experience," he said before the NCAA Tournament. "My abilities on the court, I think I just fall into that role. I think I have done a pretty good job of being someone the guys can look up to whenever (they want)."
Mitchell became a catalyst for the Tigers as a senior after "everyone wrote us off."
"We looked each other in the mirror, didn't worry about any outside noise," he said following Missouri's 80-66 loss to Miami in the NCAA Tournament. "I think you can just take that into life, keep who is in your circle, who's rocking with you, who is loving on you, and love them back and give energy back to them and good things will happen for you."
Now, Mitchell, a fifth-year senior, will get a chance to play for the Wildcats.
