The Hickman County Falcons welcomed us to their elementary school to award the first teacher of the month for the 2026 – 2027 School Year. Ms. Whitney Alexander, a 2nd Grade Teacher, whom you may remember as a previous winner, invited us in to her meticulously decorated classroom. This time, we were able to meet her students – it was a real treat!
During our last visit we learned much about Ms. Alexander with our fun questions, this time her students helped. (1) The students want her to spend her prize money on donuts. (2) They really want her to win the $500 Teacher of the Year prize. (3) Pink is still her favorite color. (4) 2nd Grade is her favorite grade. (5) Math is her favorite subject to teach.
The excitement in the classroom is why recognizing teachers is important. This contest is now in its 6th year thanks to award sponsor Scott Walker Construction. No matter which school, they send someone to award the prize and say THANK YOU to the winning teacher.
West Kentucky Star Teacher of the Month, sponsored by Scott Walker Construction, is awarded each month of the school year. As the September winner, Ms. Alexander will join the other 2026-2027 awardees for the West Kentucky Star Teacher of the Year in the spring. Each teacher’s school receives yard signs to show that a “Teacher of the Month Works Here.” It’s a great addition to the school entrances and a way schools can show off their winning teacher! Also, thanks to our sponsor, the monthly prize is now $100 and the yearly prize is $500!
