In her time as an elementary teacher, Mrs. Martin taught First Grade, Reading Recovery, Kindergarten, Third Grade and now Fifth Grade. I asked if she had a favorite and she clearly pointed out “that depends on what aspect we’re looking at. For example, when I taught first grade, I loved teaching them how to read.” There really are positive aspects of teaching at each grade level.
A question we ask each teacher is “What do you hope your students remember about you?” Mrs. Martin replied “I would hope they remember I saw them as more than just a student. And that we built relationships and they know I care about them as a person.”
West Kentucky Star Teacher of the Month, sponsored by Scott Walker Construction, is awarded each month of the school year. As February winner, Mrs. Martin will join the other 2025-2026 awardees for the West Kentucky Star Teacher of the Year which opens in April. Each teacher’s school receives a yard sign to show that a “Teacher of the Month Works Here.” It’s a great addition to the school entrances and a way schools can show off their winning teacher! Also, thanks to our sponsor, all monthly winners receive $75!
Visit the WestKentuckyStar.com CONTESTS tab each month to participate.
