Herrinfesta Italiana kicks off southern Illinois summer

One of southern Illinois' largest community events takes place this week with Herrin Festa Italiana, through Memorial Day.

Festa features Italian food, music, contests and pageants, bocce and golf tournaments, and a regional arts and crafts exhibit.   

The grand parade will be Saturday at 11 am downtown. The entertainment tent will have live music Friday, Saturday and Sunday night.

Carnival rides on the mega-midway open Thursday through Monday.

The Festa is run by volunteers under the umbrella of The Herrin Chamber of Commerce, the City of Herrin and The Herrin Civic Center.
