The investiture ceremony for Murray State University President Dr. Ron Patterson took place earlier this week.
A number of dignitaries were on hand for the ceremony held on campus including Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear.
According to a story in The Murray Sentinel, Beshear noted leaders like Dr. Patterson were needed to move the country forward and not divide. He also noted he was glad Patterson was chosen as the first African American president of the school.
In his remarks, Dr. Patterson said the one principle that will define his presidency is students first. He said that standard calls on the university not only to educate students, but to help shape their futures by expanding their sense of what is possible.
Patterson was named the 15th president of the school last July when he replaced retiring president Dr. Bob Jackson.
