The first severe storms of the season dropped a large amount of rain and some large hail across the area on Wednesday night and Thursday.
Storm reports to the National Weather Service office in Paducah showed that in a 24-hour period, Pulaski County, Illinois was inundated with 5.51 inches of rain. Union County, Illinois received 4 inches, and Cape Girardeau, Missouri got more than 3 inches. Some buildings flooded on the SEMO campus.
In Crittenden County, several inches of swiftly moving water flooded across Mexico Road. On Thursday afternoon Crittenden County Emergency Management posted that Judge-executive Perry Newcom said Blackburn Church Road has been closed due to flooding and damages from the bridge to the old Blackburn Church. As waters recede, the road department will assess the damages on Friday and make needed repairs when possible.
Flash flooding, including water over roads, was reported in Cape Girardeau, Henderson, Pope County, and Webster County.
Officials reported 6-8 inches of standing water in downtown Evansville Thursday morning.
Pope County, Illinois saw 1.25 inch hail. Three-quarter inch hail was reported in Scott County, Missouri.
