Crews from neighboring counties are responding to assist Christian and Muhlenberg County road crews as KYTC District 2 employees work to remove significant ice accumulations from state highways.

Crews from five other counties are assisting in Muhlenberg County, and crews from four other counties are helping in Christian County.

During last weekend’s winter storm, up to three inches of sleet and freezing rain fell directly on roadways in south central Kentucky.

Unlike counties to the west that received measurable snowfall before the ice event, much of the precipitation in the Christian and Muhlenberg areas froze directly on the pavement. This is more difficult to treat because salt is less effective when applied directly to ice.

Assistance from neighboring KYTC districts is also being requested. Privately contracted road graders have been helping since the start of the ice event.
