Kentucky Communities still recovering from 2021 tornadoes and flooding will get some $123 million in federal funding, Gov. Andy Beshear announced Wednesday. 

Beshear announced Wednesday funds will be distributed to more than 35 counties. The Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery appropriation earmarked Kentucky funds.

The four counties sustaining the brunt of the storms in Kentucky are Graves, Hopkins, Warren, and Breathitt. They will be allocated some 80% of funds. The remaining 20% will assist another 36 counties that 2021 weather impacted. 

Beshear estimated funding would help in the construction of 600 homes in the impacted area.

Mayfield Mayor Kathy O'Nan expressed delight at the announcement, as the Graves County seat continues to rebuild from its massive damage. Volunteers have helped construct more than a dozen homes.  

The program will be administered by The Department for Local Government will administer the program. Applications will be available on its website, beginning May 1. Ask questions about the program via DLG.DR@ky.gov.
