A Christian County man has been charged with stealing veterans grave markers from two Hopkinsville area cemeteries.

WKDZ reported Hopkinsville Police as saying Tuesday 52-year-old Robert Lafon of Pembroke was arrested last week on a Christian County warrant.

The investigation began August 21st when the city of Hopkinsville reported 27 veterans markers had been stolen from Cave Springs and Riverside cemeteries.  The markers were valued at $12,000.

Investigators said they found some of the missing pieces after they had been sold to a local scrap yard.  They were then able to link the transaction to Lafon.

Lafon is charged with criminal mischief, violating graves and receiving stolen property valued at $10,000 or more.   He is lodged in the Christian County Jail.

Jail records also indicate Lafon has been arrested on a variety of charges over the last five years.
