According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, 50-year-old Kathleen M. Michaelis of Clarksville was sentenced to two years in federal prison after being convicted of wire fraud for embezzling more than $238,000 over a seven-year period. Michaelis was the bookkeeper for a Christian County business and, according to the court records, issued fraudulent checks to cover the failure to forward withholdings to the company’s retirement program and the U.S. Treasury. Reportedly, she used the money for personal expenses.
In addition to the 2 years in prison, Michaelis will also have two years of supervised release, as well as having to repay restitution of $291,470.
There is no parole in the federal system.
