Paducah's Board of Commissioners approved a lease on one of two new towers to be used in the expansion of the 911 system.

The lease agreement will allow the City and County to use a tower on Sheehan Bridge Road that is owned by SBA Towers X, LLC. The agreement is initially for ten years. It also stipulates automatic renewals for another twenty in four terms of five years apiece, meaning the full agreement extends to 30 years.

Paducah and McCracken County own the three towers the current system works off of, however, the upgrade project is based on a five-tower plan. One of the reasons for the upgrade and expansion is that first responders have faced gaps in radio coverage. The additional towers will close those gaps.

Negotiations are underway for the lease on a fifth tower.
