An unidentified driver was cited for getting stuck on an unfinished portion of the I-24 Ohio River bridge on Tuesday morning.

McCracken County Sheriff’s deputies got the call about the car and driver around 6 a.m. Tuesday, when construction workers found the car behind barriers. The driver of the car managed to get behind cones, signs, and barriers to get to the unfinished side of the bridge deck. What the driver did not realize is that there are sections of the deck that are not in place, leaving gaps and clear views of the river below.

The report said that the car bounced its way over several of these gaps before becoming stuck in one. Deputies are still investigating how the driver ended up where he did. It took a wrecker crew and the construction team to get the car out of the hole and off the bridge.

The driver was cited for reckless driving, possession of marijuana, disregarding traffic regulations, and disregarding a traffic control device.
