Expanded heat advisory today sets stage for heat wave this weekend

Another heat advisory is in effect for today, including a larger area than yesterday's advisory.

Between noon and 7 p.m., heat index readings are again expected from 102 to 109, and some areas could climb over 110.

The heat could be broken in places this afternoon by thunderstorms with torrential rainfall and isolated gusty winds.

Meteorologists say that after a wetter day Friday, a more dangerous prolonged heatwave will begin this weekend and continue through most of next week with daily heat index values of 105 to 115.
