An extreme heat warning will be in effect for all of western Kentucky and southern Illinois from Monday through Thursday.
The National Weather Service says dangerously hot conditions with heat index values of 105 to 115 are expected each day.
Overnight lows will only fall into the mid-70s, providing little relief.
It will take several days for the massive heat dome to eventually be pushed out of the way. In the meantime, heat warnings and watches are in place from the Gulf coast through our region all the way to the Great Lakes near the Canadian border.
This week will be the time to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun as much as possible, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Provide extra water and shade for animals in your care.
