A nearly $2 million grant has been set aside to help replace a water treatment process building in Paducah.
The money is headed toward the Paducah McCracken County Joint Sewer Agency as they look to update facilities. 1st District Congressman James Comer led the effort to get the grant on behalf of the City and County. The $1.75 million is for constructing a new sludge dewatering building, which will replace one that has outlived its service life, according to the agency.
Comer said, “Replacing that facility is about reliability, safety, and long-term efficiency.” He added, “We have got to have infrastructure, if we’re going to continue to serve the current needs of this community, as well as the future needs, with what I think is going to be a growth spurt in Paducah and McCracken County.”
Comer said he is traveling around the state more and more and that Paducah is “the talk of the state”, with what is happening at the Department of Energy site and the economic development of the area. He said that Paducah is the hot spot in the state and the economic engine of the First Congressional District.
The Paducah project is one of several in Comer’s district that were funded in this latest appropriation. There are also infrastructure projects that have been announced in Eddyville, Madisonville, Henderson, and Frankfort.
