On Wednesday, the U.S. Army officially revealed the name of its Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft that will soon replace the aging Black Hawk helicopters at Fort Campbell.

The Bell V-280 tiltrotor aircraft was offically named the MV-75 Cheyenne II. The announcement was made during the Army Aviation Association of America summit in Nashville.

The MV-75 Cheyenne II is the Army’s first conventional tilt-rotor aircraft. The aircraft is designed to reach speeds over 300 miles per hour, transport 14 soldiers, and carry an external load up to 10,000 lbs.

The Army initiated the FLRAA program in 2019 as part of an initiative to replace a portion of its assault and utility helicopter fleet. The Bell tiltrotor was chosen as the winning model in 2022.

The MV-75 Cheyenne II is intended to eventually replace the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter, which has been in service for more than four decades, and is a primary aircraft in the fleet of the 101st Airborne Division.

The new aircraft will first be issued to the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Campbell, with expected arrival to begin in 2027. A fully operational fleet of the new Cheyennes is planned to be assembled by 2030.
